Our Wedding

Our Wedding, Our Favorite Celebration

My husband makes me a better person in every way. He is patient, loving, he thinks I’m funny and I knew he’d be a great Dad; although I admit, I didn’t know how great he’d be until I saw him with our son. Since I’ve met B, I’ve become so much more casual and laid back. I’m super type-A and before B, I was very bad at laughing at my mistakes and learning to just roll with it. He isn’t stuffy or serious at all so after he proposed, we started planning our wedding and immediately knew we wanted a fun, laid back wedding. Together we are very silly and try not to take anything too seriously. We wanted our wedding the same way: fun, colorful, laid back & HAPPY.

The main things we wanted: Open Bar, A Great Band & By the Water somewhere. And most importantly, to be married to each other!

My family business is a funeral home & I actually promised myself I was never going to mention that on this blog, but it has some significance when it came to wedding planning. My entire family wears a lot of black at work – so, when we aren’t at work, we like to wear lots of color. I actually knew way before I met B that I wanted a pink and navy wedding at the coast (if my husband would allow it) because those are my colors – no black tie wedding for us! We also associate flowers with funerals – so I didn’t want any flowers at our wedding. Yes, I know I’m crazy.

We decided on the most perfect marina venue in Mount Pleasant/Charleston, SC because there were enough rooms to accommodate our guests and no one would have to drive. We wanted everyone to be able to enjoy the weekend with us. We got married on my spring break from law school and the date was already kind of set for us by my school schedule so we’d have a full week to celebrate. So between what my family does for a living and my desperate need for a break from law school, we wanted the most fun and casual, laid back wedding ever. Plus, spring in Charleston sounded perfect. With the marina venue picked, everything kind of fell into place perfectly from my dress to the groomsmen, everything became pink and navy nautical and exactly what I’ve always pictured.

With my graphic design background, I knew I wanted to create some sort of monogram or logo that would be used on everything from save the dates to invitations to everything for the weekend in Charleston. We used it on the Welcome Bags, koozies, and everything else in between. Still digging through old folders on my computer trying to find photos of everything I did. A lot has happened since I got our wedding photos!! This is the logo we decided on.

I designed and printed all of the paper products/printed goods in my spare time and had so much fun doing it! The bouquets I actually made myself out of bouquet molds and seashells I’d painted myself by hand and some extra embellishments and ribbon. I didn’t really follow a tutorial for this, just lots of wine and patience and trial and error. For centerpieces, we decided on pretty lanterns that I picked up randomly every time Mom & I saw one out and about. Now they’re wonderful decor on our patio and for holidays :). The table runners were made from fabric Mom & I picked up from a great fabric shop and my Aunt made them. I obviously wasn’t planning on doing this blog when I planned our wedding so this is just a brief snippet of one of our best days! I’ve tried to detail as much of it as possible – I may do some free printable things inspired from our wedding soon.

We smiled, laughed  and danced so much and it was exactly what we hoped for. It was SO much fun celebrating our crazy love and marriage… I’ll admit, we still celebrate a lot. Isn’t that’s what it’s all about?

Venue: Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina (even if you aren’t getting married here, you MUST stay, each room is so beautifully decorated. We stayed here lots during the planning process & can’t wait to take our little guy back!) + their coordinator helped me line up everything from food to room reservations, she was amazing but is no longer there. I’m sure whoever is there now is just as great!

Band: North Tower Band I cannot recommend them enough, they even let me sing with them at the end. I will not be adding photos or videos of that (haha!)
